Penguin

Penguin is self proclaimed 'gentlemen of crime', a criminal aristocrat, always in tuxedo with white gloves. He rarely fights Batman on his own in melee combat. He knows when to fall back and let his numerous helpers step in. That is the case in this game 'Batman Hunt the Penguin', where we see Batman rushing on his Batcycle, while Penguin is somewhere far away and quite safe.

Batcycle

The road is more than just hilly, and the slightest mistake can flip the Batcycle, which can easily catch fire and explode since it is full of gas. And as if that is not enough to make things hard, the road is paved with wooden boxes which make very dangerous obstacles. Above Batman's head the helicopter flies over every now and then and throws bombs at him.

Driving and Shooting at the same time

So, this game is much more demanding for the player then the classic dirt bike game is. Besides balancing the vehicle over super steep ditches and hills, you have to shoot rockets at helicopters and shoot at boxes in front of you. Luckily there is an unlimited amount of ammunition, so you can jam the automatic fire key.

Levels

While all that is happening, Penguin is teasing you with his pointed remarks, like 'Feel my ice smile', 'My anger is cold', and he also calls you names like 'chimp' for instance. And just when you get to the end of the road and start shooting at Penguin, he opens his hi-tech umbrella and runs away, and that takes the case to the next level. Higher levels have steeper hills but the background and obstacles remain the same.

Controls

• left and right arrow - to shift weight and keep balance
• up and down - to accelerate/decelerate
• F - fire compact rocket. These are intended to be used on flying objects such as helicopters
• G - shoot missile. These are used for enemies and obstacles on the ground. Sometimes Batman will be positioned upwards and that will allow him to shoot missiles directly at the helicopter. However the rockets are much more efficient because it takes only one shot to blow the helicopter out of the sky.

Did you know?

The real name of Penguin is Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot. His 'father' is an American cartoonist, the same one who made Batman. Oswald is appearing for the first time in 1940 in 58th edition of Detective Comics. As a child he was always picked on at school because of his unusual looks - he was chubby and had pointy bird like nose. His mother always insisted that he takes an umbrella with, because his father died from pneumonia. All this childhood insecurities later on grew in Oswald and turned into hatred and crime and made him into one of the greatest enemies of Batman. You can read more about Penguin here. Batman Returns, movie from 1992 represents the darkest depiction of Penguin ever, and the role was masterfully played by Danny DeVito. Instead of white, he wears black deadly sharp gloves.
