Batman vs Superman Movie 2016 - Nasty Brawl With Batman Prevailing

Superman is big and there is no doubt about it. But I checked and there is another superhero who is even bigger than Superman. Who is that? You might ask. The answer is simple and it is a name that has scared even the most diehard villain into hiring legions of henchmen for protection. And that name is Batman. Yes, the caped crusader. Some of you might be saying to yourself that there is no way Batman is bigger than Superman, and that Superman would kick Batman's butt. Well, you would be wrong. You don't have to take my word for it, just accept it as fact and let's move on.

Movie Casting Controversy

Now, that you know how we stand on the debate, a new movie is in the works that tries to bring this settled debate back to life. The movie is known as Batman vs. Superman. It might be the other way around, but around here Batman gets top billing. And in case you have been living under a rock, waiting for the man of steel to come dig you out, this movie is already causing controversy throughout the comic land of the DC Universe. Now, since the the movie is in pre-production right now, the only thing that can be considered controversial is casting. And with the announcement that Ben Affleck will be taking on the role of Batman, the internet and pop culture alike, blew up. Lines were drawn and smack talk ruled the day. It has become such a topic of conversation, that one sitcom even makes a joke out of it. I'm not laughing. We take our superheros seriously. However, if Val Kilmer and George Clooney can play the role of Batman, Ben Affleck can't do any worse.

For other casting news, the role for Superman will be reprised by Henry Cavill with Amy Adams as Louis Lane. These two welcome Jeremy Irons and Jesse Eisenberg. Irons, who is well known as the Pope of Rome in the Showtime series The Borgia's will play the role of Albert Pennyworth, Batman's butler, while Eisenberg will take on the role of Lex Luther. Director Zach Snyder, said in an interview in January of Irons taking on the role the famous butler, “"As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally, and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure," he continues with “"He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious facade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne."

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman - getting in shape for the role

Eisenberg is most known for his role as Mark Zuckerberg in the drama The Social Network. Another casting decision that is making the internet take arms against this movie is for the role of Wonder Woman, who is reportedly being played by Gal Gadot. Due to fan reaction to the news, Gadot has taken to posting pictures of herself getting in shape for the role. Whether this will be enough to calm the masses, remains to be seen.

Batman vs Superman movie release date pushed back to 2016

The release date was originally planned for 2015 but has been pushed back to 2016. The rumors for this delay is that Eisenberg is currently filming another movie and the schedules collide. I say get another Luther, but Hollywood doesn't listen to me. In the meantime, some of the pre-production filming has reportedly begun, minus the big names attached to the movie. According to reports and rumors, the majority of the film is scheduled to be shot in Detroit, which is fitting as Detroit is the city that is most like the fictional city of Gotham.

Zach Snyder, the director

The movie is being directed by Zach Snyder, who directed the previous Superman movie, The Man of Steel. He will be joined by writers David Goyer and Chris Terrio, the latter wrote the screenplay for the critically acclaimed film, Argo. It was rumored that Christopher Nolan, the man behind the recent blockbuster Batman movies, would be part of the production team, but this rumor has been denied.

Is this a new series based on Justice League. Rumors about Flash and Aquamen

The story is to be based loosely on the Frank Miller graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. This story results in a very nasty brawl between the caped heroes, with Batman prevailing. It is said that the film will only borrow certain elements from the Miller story, however director Zach Snyder has expressed interest in doing a straight adaptation of the graphic novel. With this in mind, I suspect that there will be more than just certain elements used. There are also rumors that the Flash, another superhero with super speed, is set to make a cameo. This leads to even more rumors that this movie will be a set up for another series of movies based on the Justice League comics. If we start to hear rumors of Aquaman being cast, then this thought starts to gain weight.

Warner Bros acquiring new web domain

One thing that we can rest assured on is that the name of the movie will not be Batman vs. Superman. The reason for this is, for one thing, it would be a rather stupid title for a movie of such epic expectations and for a second reason, Warner Bros. has recently acquired a bunch of internet domain names, such as Battle the Knight, Black of Knight and Beyond Darkness. None of these leads to the vs. title rumor.
