Batman Defend Gotham
Music and Sound Effects
There's only one word that can describe music and effects in this game - terrible. There's an 8 seconds sequence that repeats itself in the background. Unfortunately the mute button is not functional, so the only way to make it go away is to turn off the speakers.
Instructions
- Use arrow keys to move left, right, duck and jump
- 'X' for leg kick (something like Mawashi geri)
- 'Z' is for punching
- Down arrow key plus 'X' is for lower kick.
- Space bar is for special powers. You can use it only once the special power bar gets filled to 100%. To fill it up you must collect enough bonuses which are presented as batarangs that your enemies drop down once defeated.
Levels
There are 4 playing levels per each hardness level (easy, medium and hard). According to the level selection screen, there's a box at the fourth level labeled as a 'boss', probably meaning that the hardest villain is to be fought at the very end. Once you complete the level you can check the stats of your performance, i.e. scores for bonuses, beating, combo, level and the total score.
Shop
The game has a neat option to spend the money in the shop and buy some upgrades so that Batman can afflict stronger punches, increase his resistance and improve health.
Achievements
The game has 12 achievements that you can earn as you play. The first impression about the game was that it's just another fighting arcade with minimal options and poor controls. On the other hand, the existance of upgrades, shopping and earning achievements definitely improved that impression. Bad thing is that these are not documented well, so there's no way to tell how can one earn 'first blood' or to become 'unstoppable', how to have 'no mercy' or 'getting dirty', no way to tell unless you guess. On the other hand, we are not sure how would a lucky guess help us learn in what way can Batman earn his 'over the top' achievement.
