Batman Gotham Race

In 'Batman Gotham Race', the intro picture showing Batman and Joker on a couple of racing bikes looks very impressive. An anonymous author really displayed rather envious drawing skills when he presented his version of DC comics superheroes. In the background we can see Gotham City and of course a swarm of bats.

Batman vs Joker

The game offers the player to make a choice between good guy Batman, or if you prefer bad guys, you can choose to control Joker's bike too.

Instructions

Instructions are typical for racing: You use arrow keys to control the vehicle, 'R' is for restart (in case things go wrong) and 'N' is nitro - for super speed, the bike takes some nitro from a special tank and starts speeding up momentarily. Of course that is just temporarily.

First time when I played the level I thought I made it first through the finish line. However, at the end a loser message was waiting for me 'Batman never be as looser. Lets try again' and there was a 'try again' button. It turned out that I have chosen Joker at the beginning, and I thought that I was controlling Batman all the way. It is no wonder, since there is nothing else for you to do in the game but to hold 'up arrow' key. I haven't even noticed in that parallel ride, which bike is which and which one I control.

Nitro

To win, it is not enough only to use the gas pedal and hold the 'up' key. In lower right corner there is a blue bar which represents the nitro. When it is close to 100% you can use it by pressing the 'N' key. To win the race, you'll have to use nitro very often, and only while your bike is touching ground. While you are airborne, nitro doesn't work. All in all, if you succeed, at the end of the level you will see the message 'Yeah you did it. Let's have more fun'.

About levels

There are 10 levels in the game. You pass those one by one. Of course the background remains the same for the entire game, just like in most of the dirt bike games, and only track changes. The terrain becomes more rough, harder, with more hills, which means more jumps, and greater chance to tip the bike over and fall down.

Not really a dirt bike

I can't avoid mentioning how surprised by the choice of the bikes I was. Developer obviously put in a lot of effort in this game, but instead of dirt bike sports models he used 'cruiser' models. The bike Batman rides, resembles some standard Harley Davidson more then anything else.

In Conclusion

All in all, there is nothing new to the game. After several rounds, the games becomes boring. The graphics is great, but that is not the most important thing about the games, it never was. Anyway, in this game category, we have seen much worse. The final score for this game is 3/5.
